My grandparents, Larry and Frances Howe.
AestheticsinMotion did a post about the oldest thing in your home, and I !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! a book published in 1872 that came from my grandparents’ house in Burlington, VT. The book belonged to m y grandmother, whom we called Grummy. She was a naturalist and avid birder who for many years hosted monthly segment on the locally produced program Across the Fence called Bird Notes. Posting that book got me thinking about my grandparents and, since absolutely everything in the world is on YouTube, I found this video. She passed in 1993, and I haven’t heard her voice for more than 25 years.

That is amazing. I’d love to hear my grandmother’s voice again.

That's neat. I had a Xmas ornament with my parents voice wishing me Merry Xmas. I just about cried when it broke.

I showed some of the video to my boys. I don’t think it really meant that much to them, but the idea of them being able to see and hear their GREAT grandmother is pretty awesome to me. I guess in the future people having video records of their relatives going back generations won’t be that big of a deal.

I’m calling my last remaining grandparent, which happens to be my grandmother ASAP, this post was a good reminder that I need to do so. It’s amazing you managed to find a video of your grandparents!
She has already given me an antique (looking) clock, thermometer and my grandfathers watch . Not sure on the vintage of either.

True and they won’t think twice about how lucky they are . My grandmother died at 51 from complications related to post polio syndrome so I didn’t get to know her as an adult and just have a child’s memory of her.

That’s amazing. I’m driving to Florida later this month to celebrate with my grandmother for her 95th birthday; think I’ll grab a video while I’m there.

My parents divorced when I was about 4, and I never lived in the same town as my grandparents. I would see them maybe once a year, and I saw my paternal grandparents (the video is my maternal grandmother) more often. The last time I was in VT I was still in high school, and I don’t think I went back until my grandfather’s funeral. I would have loved to hang out with them as an adult. They were both very interesting people, and my grandfather’s interests and mine would have lined up nicely. However, as I said in the post, he was a newspaper editor and Latin scholar, and he once returned a letter my brother wrote to him with corrections made in red ink.

Set up the camera and talk. It will make a cherished memento for you and your family.
